Incoming Question! [10 May 2006|11:52pm]

Hey class of '09. I just got a call from CC. I was waitlisted and then accepted. I already put down my deposit for another school, and hadn't given much thought to CC, but now that I have been accepted, my opinion's changing. I think CC would be good, because it's a bit closer to home than Wisconsin (Beloit C.) and much easier to get to (as opposed to a 1.5 hour drive from O'hare. My main concern is the social scene. Beloit has a pretty laid back atitude towards drinking, not too much peer pressure and yet people like to have their drinks. What is the party scene like at CC? Do people tend to go overboard on the alcohol and pot?

I hate to sound like a loser, but I was actually kicked out of high school for selling pot, and have not touched weed for 3 years. I am looking for a healthy environment. Do you feel that CC promotes being a well balanced individual? Are they perceptive to student needs? I know these aren't the typical questions to ask, but these are some things that really matter to me. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

-Preston (from L.A.)

p.s. also, I kinda wanted to go to a school without a large L.A. scene (trying to expand my horizons...), any feedback on this?

I just wanted to say to everyone (who hasn't already left on their road trip) that it's been cool talk to y'all on here or IMs or whatnot. Hope y'all are travel in safe and I can't wait to meet you gals (I just realized I'm the only guy here -Irene that trend we talked about continues).

Name: emily
Email/AIM/anything else: ask me for it after introductions have all been laid out on the table. i will most likely be thrilled to share.
Hometown: denver/highlands ranch
Favorite Book: a clockwork orange
Favorite Author: this question is far too difficult for the likes of me. really, i read on a book-by-book basis and dont tend to hand my devotions to certain authors.
Favorite Movie: closer
Favorite Band/Individual Performer: at the moment i would have to say ben folds, but ask me any other day and it will vary. i only say ben because i saw him perform last night and i have his wonderful set on my mind.
Pastimes: being as adventurous/spontaneous/fun-loving as i can. reading, making poor-quality movies with my friends, hosting and participating in extreme treasure hunts, etc.
Why CC: the block plan. and its closer to home than my other choice, occidental.
How sure are you that you're attending: i have my room number assigned and my name on a class list, so i would have to say im there, 100%.
Topic of admissions essay about block: im assuming this means about the design your own class question, for which i outlined a cirriculum about the anatomy of a revolution and how it can apply to most of the major revolutions in world history.
Potential Major: journalism, creative writing, or anything that allows me to scribble prose on a piece of paper and call it meaningful.

glad to meet you all! if you would like, please comment and tell me a little about yourselves (something that i cant find on this outlined introduction, perhaps).

Where are you all living? I'm in 309 Slocum, 3 South! I also think it's funny that half of us are on the same wing. On the back of the housing letter, it gives us an address with a worner box number. Am I right in assuming that that's our own mailbox?

Slocum 3 South is the best hall and room 314 is the best room. (Caitlin your room is 2nd :D)

That is all.

Have we received our Worner box numbers yet? Because I kind of wanted to get my Gold card an' stuff, and want to make sure I didn't miss it somewhere.

Humane Society [18 Jul 2005|07:23pm]

chaostrophy
The Pikes Peak Humane Society off of Cimarron in Colorado Springs is closing On July the 22nd and all remaining animals will be destroyed as the Colorado Springs Humane Society refuses to take them in. Animals will be released to animal lovers and rescue groups at no charge. There are many pure-breds as well as mix breeds in this shelter. Please save them now!! The extermination has already begun, they've euthanized all cats with any hint of upper respiratory or other very treatable health imperfections. Please let anyone you know in Colorado know about this and urge them to take immediate action.
